Rajkumar Hirani is known to bring something unique and interesting to the big screen with each of his films. Unlike other directors, Hirani’s list of films is very small, but all his films shattered many box office records and got appreciations from both moviegoers and critics. His latest offering Sanju is also following the path of his previous movies. It has not only got a thumbs up from fans and critics alike, but the biopic is unstoppable at the box office.
After zooming past the Rs 100-crore mark in its opening weekend, Sanju is now marching towards the double century in its opening week. Within four days of its release, Hirani’s directorial venture has already broken a few records.
Biggest opener of 2018: Before the release of Sanju, Hollywood biggie Avengers Infinity War was holding the tag of the biggest opener of 2018. However, Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju proved that you don’t need a holiday weekend or a festival to pack a punch at the box office. The biopic has overthrown Avengers Infinity War to become the biggest opener of this year so far, by collecting Rs 34.75 crores.
Highest single day for a Hindi film: Sanju has smashed Baahubali 2 (Hindi only) record, by scoring the highest single day for a Hindi film ever. Baahubali 2 (Hindi only) had collected Rs 46.50 crores on its Day 3, while Sanju has surpassed it by earning Rs 46.71 crores on its Day 3.
Highest opening weekend grosser of 2018: Beating the likes of Race 3 and Padmaavat, Hirani’s Sanju has emerged as the true winner at the ticket counters. Padmaavat had earned Rs 114 crore in its 5-day extended weekend, but Sanju surpassed Padmaavat’s collection in just 3 days by earning a whopping Rs 120.06 crores. Currently, Bahubali 2 holds the record of highest opening weekend grosser of all time.
Biggest opener for Ranbir Kapoor and Rajkumar Hirani: The biopic has not only become the biggest opener of 2018 but also the biggest opener for Ranbir. His 2013 film Besharam had made Rs 21.56 crores on its opening day and was his biggest opener till date. Similarly, Hirani’s PK had scored 26.63 crores on its opening day and was his biggest opener.
