Akshay Kumar starrer sports drama Gold, which hit theaters on Independence Day, has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic box office. The film was the biggest opener for Akshay Kumar, but it failed to maintain the momentum because of competition from John Abraham’s action masala flick Satyameva Jayate. Gold has lost at least 25-30 crores because of the competition in its first week. The earning from small cities and single screens is below average because moviegoers in those circuits preferred Satyameva Jayate.
As per the box office reports, the film collected 1.45 crores on second Monday to take its total domestic box office collection to approx. 101.10 crores after 13 days. The release of two new films in the second week has affected its collection in the second week. It had the potential to cross 150 crores in the domestic market, but not getting a solo release has marred its lifetime prospect. John Abraham’s film Satyameva Jayate gave tough competition to Gold and it can be said that Gold’s box office collection suffered because of the Milap Zaveri directorial. Now the film is heading towards 110-115 crores in its lifetime.
The business of the film is as follows:
Week 1: ₹ 90.05 cr
Friday (Day 10): ₹ 1.80 cr
Saturday (Day 11): ₹ 3.10 cr
Sunday (Day 12): ₹ 4.70 cr
Monday (Day 13): ₹ 1.45 cr
Total: ₹ 101.10 cr
