After a blockbuster opening on the Independence day, Akshay Kumar’s sports drama Gold witnessed a major dip of about 68% on its second day at the box office. If a big holiday is in midweek, 55-60% drop on the next working day is a normal trend, but the competition at the ticket counters worsened the collection of Gold.
As per the box office reports, the film earned about 8.00 crores on Thursday to take its total domestic box office collection to 33.25 crores after 2 days. As Friday is also a working day, the collection may remain in the same range. The collection should cross 40 crores before the film enters into the weekend.
A few years ago, Salman Khan’s solo release Ek Tha Tiger had witnessed the similar situation when its collection dropped by about 64% on the second day. As public appreciation is profuse, Akshay Kumar’s film should shift the gear on Saturday and Sunday. Without competition, it would have scored a century in its first extended weekend. But now it is looking for 75-80 crores in first 5 days.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the collection of the film. He wrote, “#Gold witnessed a decline on Thu… Biz should gain momentum from today onwards… Plexes hold the key… Wed 25.25 cr, Thu 8 cr. Total: ₹ 33.25 cr. India biz.”
Directed by Reema Kagti, Gold stars Amit Sadh, Mouni Roy, Vineet Singh and Kunal Kapoor. The film comes after Akshay’s string of hits in the last two years and is expected to cement his position further.
The business of the film is as follows:
Wednesday (Day 1): ₹ 25.25 cr
Thursday (Day 2): ₹ 8.00 cr
Total: ₹ 33.25 cr
