After an unexpected drop on Thursday, Akshay Kumar’s Gold continued its upward journey at the box office. Riding on positive word of mouth, the film added more than 15 crores on first Sunday. Despite facing competition from Satyameva Jayate, the film did an excellent business over the weekend. Without any competition, it would have crossed 85-90 crores, so it has lost about 15-20 crores in its first weekend because of competition.
As per the box office reports, the film amassed about 16.50 crores on Sunday to take its total domestic box office collection to 72.95 crores after 5 days. A large percentage of this total has come from multiplexes, so weekdays collection might see some noticeable drop. The film needs to earn more than 5 crores on an average in the next 4 days of the week. This week several new releases will hit the theatres and if any of them works in multiplexes, Gold will feel the heat. It should easily cross 100 crores mark, but lifetime collection cannot be predicted now.
The business of the film is as follows:
Wednesday (Day 1): ₹ 25.25 cr
Thursday (Day 2): ₹ 8.10 cr
Friday (Day 3): ₹ 10.10 cr
Saturday (Day 4): ₹ 12.30 cr
Sunday (Day 5): ₹ 15.55 cr
Total: ₹ 71.30 cr
