Major Highlights of Revised Goods and Services Tax (GST) Rates

Last year the Indian government implemented the Goods and Services Tax (GST) without proper reviews and as a result of that consumers were paying higher taxes on many basic items. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council had several meetings since then to change tax rates for several items. Yesterday the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council decided to slash tax rates on many consumer durables like televisions, air conditioners, etc. to give a major relief to consumers.Revised GST rates

Interim Union Finance Minister Piyush Goyal also announced that sanitary napkins are now 100 percent exempt from tax, from the previous 12 percent. A high GST rate on sanitary napkins imposed last year had triggered howls of protest from consumer activist groups.
