Year 2016 turned out one of the best years for Akshay Kumar; after Airlift and Housefull 3, Rustom joined the elite club of 100-crores-movie. Though the film had an excellent pre-release buzz, its competition with Hrithik’s Mohenjo Daro was casting a shadow over its box office prospect. But the film not only beat the competition, but also it became another 100 crore movie for Akshay Kumar.
As per the box office reports, the movie amassed approx 26.10 crores in the second week to take its total domestic box office collection to approx 116 crores. Though the drop in the collection in the second week was huge because of low occupancy in the single screens, the first week collection made it a super hit movie for Rustom team. Also, it didn’t get an open second week because the new release Happy Bhag Jayegi ate some of its screen shares. The current new release A Flying Jatt has received bad reviews from critics and has poor words of mouth publicity, so there are chances that Rustom might touch 125-126 crores as the lifetime collection.
