After a lukewarm opening on Friday, Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu’s Soorma witnessed about 58% jump in the collection on Saturday. The movie received rave reviews from critics and the word of mouth is extremely positive, so such progression was expected.
As per the box office reports, the film garnered 5.05 crores on first Saturday to take its total domestic box office collection to 8.25 crores after 2 days. As moviegoers have given thumbs-up to the movie, the earning should maintain its upward journey on Sunday too. It does not have any big Bollywood star, so anything close to 15 crores in the first weekend will be excellent. It is facing competition from Hollywood release ‘Ant-man’ and Bollywood blockbuster ‘Sanju’ at the ticket counters. Sanju is still running in 2100 screens in its third week and Soorma has got only 1100 screens, so a massive collection is out of reach for Soorma. 35-40 crores should be its lifetime target.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the figures of Soorma’s second day on twitter. “#Soorma saw an UPWARD TREND on Day 2… Growth on Sat [vis-à-vis Fri]: 57.81%… Positive word of mouth is reflecting in the BO numbers… Sun biz expected to grow further… Fri 3.20 cr, Sat 5.05 cr. Total: ₹ 8.25 cr. India biz.“, he wrote.
Soorma follows the journey of the famous hockey player Sandeep Singh, his subsequent mishap which made him wheelchair bound and how he recovered to take India towards glory.
Apart from Diljit, the film also features Taapsee Pannu, Angad Bedi, and Siddharth Shukla in key roles.
The box office collection of the film is as follows:
Friday (Day 1): ₹ 3.20 cr
Saturday (Day 2): ₹ 5.05 cr
Total: ₹ 8.25 cr
